Village Green - South Unionville is on the southeast side of the Unionville community. It is an appealing community with many shops, supermarkets, and beautiful parklands. Some top elementary and high schools in Ontario are also serving the neighborhoods.

Community Overview

South Unionville runs from McCowan Road on the east to Highway 7 on the North, Kennedy Road on the west, and Highway 407 on the South. It is an Asian ethnic dominant community with an average household income slightly below Toronto's average.

1. Housing:

Village Green - South Unionville Markham Real estate mainly comprises freehold Detached, Semi-detached, and Townhouses built after the year 2000. Housings at the northwest corner of the Community are slightly more aged and were primarily constructed around the late 1980s. The average lot frontage of detached housing is between 30 and 40 feet, but some executive homes close to Campbell Park can also have up to 200 feet front dimensions. Semi-detached and Townhouses are mainly concentrated on the Community's south side, bounded by Castan Avenue. There is also a mid-rise condo at Kennedy Road and South Unionville Avenue intersection. Furthermore, Sunrise of Unionville and Bethany Manor at the northwest corner of the Community are senior living communities for the elderly.

2. Demographic:

South Unionville is an Asian ethnic dominant Community, with over 75% of the occupants Chinese and 10% from South Asia. Over 93% of residents in this part of Markham are families.

3. Transportation:

Most families depend on cars to commute. The main street, highway 7, is not a swift route due to excessive traffic lights. Kennedy and McCowan have access to express tollway 407, which permits a speedy trip to both east and west, even during rush hour. Village Green - South Unionville has some bus routes running at the peripheral streets of the Community. The Community is also close to Centennial Go station and Unionville Go Station, from which residents can journey directly to downtown Toronto in about 45 minutes.

4. Recreation:

Milne Dam Conservation Park is a massive park at the east end of the Community, which offers a 2.3-kilometer trail crossing a splendid bridge, several beautiful creeks, and many large picnic and barbecue fields overlooking the rouge river. Within the Community, Village Green Park offers 2.6 km of walking trails with pleasant scenery of lovely ponds. South Unionville Park, Bianca Park, and Avoca Park present soccer fields, tennis courts, and children's playgrounds. The Markham Pan Am Centre is within a short walk from South Unionville and provides volleyball, basketball, badminton, swimming, and table tennis facilities. Centennial Community Centre focusing on health and wellness, is a favorite place for families. It has a 1,800-seat ice rink, a swimming pool with a diving tank, a fitness center, and more.

5. Shopping:

With hundreds of stores, CF Markville mall is Markham's largest indoor shopping center. Several anchor stores, such as Walmart, Apple, Best Buy, Zara, H&M, Hudson Bay, and others, champion an extraordinary shopping experience for locals and visitors. Shoppers can also discover many fine dining restaurants, supermarkets, and retail chains at all corners of the junction of Highway 7 and McCowan Road. South Unionville Square, also known as Langham Square, is a multi-story indoor mall and outdoor plaza at Kennedy Road and South Unionville Avenue intersection, where shoppers can find T&T Supermarket, retail stores, restaurants, and professional offices. Across the street, Asian tastes are concentrated in New Kennedy Square shopping mall, which has around a hundred restaurants and stores.

6. Schools:

Students from JK to grade 8 will attend Unionville Meadows Public School, one of Ontario's top elementary schools. The Community belongs to the Markville Secondary School zone. The school ranks in the top 10 over 700 high schools in Ontario and delivers a gifted program to high-potential students.
